چکیده

Poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers are hyper-branched polymers with uniform size, defined molecular weight, large internal cavities and a high number of surface groups that make them particularly suitable for a number of biomedical and technological applications [1]. It has been found that surface functionalization is the main factor modulating the toxicity of dendrimers to mammalian cells lines, but their effects for aquatic microorganisms is still largely unknown [2]. We are presenting results on the effect of generation G2, G3 and G4 amine-terminated (–NH2) and hydroxyl terminated (-OH) PAMAM dendrimers towards the green alga Chlamydomonas reindhartii and the cyanobacterium Anabaena PCC7120.

Interaction of poly(amidoamine) dendrimers with supported lipid bilayers and cells: hole formation and the relation to transport.

We have investigated poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer interactions with supported 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC) lipid bilayers and KB and Rat2 cell membranes using atomic force microscopy (AFM), enzyme assays, flow cell cytometry, and fluorescence microscopy. Amine-terminated generation 7 (G7) PAMAM dendrimers (10-100 nM) were observed to form holes of 15-40 nm in diamete...

Paramagnetic NMR Investigation of Dendrimer-Based Host-Guest Interactions

In this study, the host-guest behavior of poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers bearing amine, hydroxyl, or carboxylate surface functionalities were investigated by paramagnetic NMR studies. 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidinyloxy (TEMPO) derivatives were used as paramagnetic guest molecules. The results showed that TEMPO-COOH significantly broaden the ¹H NMR peaks of amine- and hydroxyl-terminated PAM...

Post-synthesis dispersion of metal nanoparticles by poly(amidoamine) dendrimers: size-selective inclusion, water solubilization, and improved catalytic performance.

Intermetallic Pt(3)Ti nanoparticles are solubilized in water by using a generation-five, hydroxyl-terminated, poly(amidoamine) dendrimer, G5OH, as a post-synthesis surfactant. Pt(3)Ti nanoparticles, encapsulated in G5OH and dispersed over the electrode surface, exhibited a superior catalytic activity toward the electro-reduction reaction of oxygen compared to as-prepared, highly agglomerated na...

Synthesis, characterization, and surface immobilization of platinum and palladium nanoparticles encapsulated within amine-terminated poly(amidoamine) dendrimers.

Platinum and palladium dendrimer-encapsulated nanoparticles (DENs) were prepared within commercially available, fourth-generation, amine-terminated, poly(amidoamine) dendrimers (G4-NH2). The synthesis is carried out by selectively encapsulating metal complexes within the dendrimer and then reducing the resulting composite. Intradendrimer complexation requires control over the solution pH to pre...

Surface Hydrophobic Modification of Fifth-Generation Hydroxyl-Terminated Poly(amidoamine) Dendrimers and Its Effect on Biocompatibility and Rheology

H NMR spectra to support data for Table 1 and Figure 1: For synthesis of hydrophobically modified dendrimers, dodecyl chloroformate was adjusted to 5, 10 and 20 mol % of G5OH PAMAM dendrimer hydroxyl groups, and the amount of cholesteryl chloroformate was 0.86, 2, 5, and 20 mol % of dendrimer hydroxyl groups. The corresponding modified dendrimers were designated as D1, D2, D3 and C1, C2, C3, C4...
